Last weekend my boyfriend and I took a one night trip to Seward for a quick getaway from Anchorage and to see the Kenai Fjords National Park . We decided to get to Seward by driving the scenic route from Anchorage, since it’s an easy 2 ½ hour drive through the mountains and along the coast. We didn’t leave Anchorage until 6:00 pm since we both had to work that day but we had daylight the whole way down. When we got to Seward we had a very quick and easy check in at the Seward Windsong Lodge , and even though we were booked in a deluxe category room, they upgraded us to a suite category room (the suites are bigger and have a Jacuzzi bathtub).
I noticed the computers by the gift shop which offer free internet use for guests. The Windsong Lodge is about 3 miles from the heart of Seward and they have a free shuttle for guests that go in and out of town frequently to accommodate the day cruises, cruise ship transfers, as well as guests seeking to go to the Sea Life Center or just walk around downtown and check out the shops and restaurants.
After we got settled into our beautiful room, we walked the paved trail to their restaurant called the Resurrection Roadhouse where we were seated by a window with a view of the mountains. I am a vegan so whenever we go out to eat it can be challenging to find something adequate to suite my dietary needs. They were very accommodating when I told them I was vegan and our waiter recommended the Aglio E Olio (which is a pasta dish) without the cheese and my boyfriend had the prosciutto wrapped chicken breast and mashed potatoes. We both ordered the local favorite Moose’s Tooth raspberry wheat beer to drink. Our service was fairly quick even though it was still busy, and WOW our food was amazing. I am having dreams about their Aglio E Olio and my boyfriend said his food was incredible as well. We both ate every last bit! The beer we had was great, if you are a beer drinker than I would recommend trying it. After dinner we went back to our hotel room, enjoyed the Jacuzzi then were ready for bed. Our checkout from the hotel took a whole 2 seconds the following morning then we were on our way. Our experience at the Windsong Lodge was especially nice with the free upgrade and the excellent customer service (hat’s off to our waiter at the Roadhouse by the way, he was very friendly and did an excellent job). I would HIGHLY recommend staying here if you plan on visiting Seward.
